Old Lighter at Anson Bay on Norfolk Island. A Lighter Boat is a cargo carrying boat used to unload a ship and quite simply, make it ‘lighter’. Norfolk’s design of cargo ferrying vessel has been used as a means of transporting goods from ship to shore for decades. One the boats have reached the end of their working lives, they are laid to rest in Kingston – and occasionally around the island – where they remain as a monument to their place in Norfolk’s proud history.
