Alone, not lonely. Rattray

ABOUT THIS IMAGE

Alone, but not lonely. This panoramic image has been taken with a deliberate expanse of water to the left and right of the image to highlight a type of solitude that is so beautiful in lighthouses. The detail of the shot however shows that all is not as it may at first appear, and as we look closer we see the many birds that are perched on the lone tower.

Rattray Head Lighthouse is a striking beacon on the Aberdeenshire coast in North East Scotland. The lighthouse was built in 1865 and stands 37 metres high. It has been unmanned since the early 1980s but still operates remotely today to protect boats and ships from the oftentimes treacherous coastline.
