Waterfalls at Cockpit Reserve. The Cockpit Reserve area along the Cascade coastline on the island’s north has played an important role in Norfolk’s history. The waterfalls at Cockpit run nearly all year round and have provided an important water source for domestic use, flax processing and later for the whaling industry at Cascade. A small hamlet named Phillipsburg was established in the area in 1790.
